Description
The Cotton Club at 222 Joseph Ave was in a two-story brick building. Near the rear of the building, the construction became concrete block. The Cottom Club was connected to a storefront at 224 Jospeh Street, which was built from cinder block faced with brick with a frame extention to the rear.
Detailed History
A newspaper clipping indicates that Miss Myrtle Johnson, the "Brown Beauty," performed at the Cotton Club. Today, the building that housed the Cotton Club no longer exists. This structure’s original neighborhood was destroyed and rebuilt during Rochester’s urban revitalization projects in the late 1960s and early 1970s.
