Anniversary

In 2026, the UVA School of Nursing celebrates its 125-year anniversary. The Bjoring Center launched this website to commemorate this important milestone. It brings together archival documents, photographs, and contextual information to highlight the individuals, events, and social and political factors that shaped the history of UVA School of Nursing. And it documents the important contributions the School of Nursing has made to the nursing profession and to the health and healthcare of Virginia and the United States.

The website draws upon the School of Nursing’s archival records, which are housed at the Bjoring Center for Nursing Historical Inquiry, and the archival records of UVA Hospital, located at Historical Collections, Claude Moore Health Sciences Library. It is also informed by Barbara Brodie’s Mr. Jefferson’s Nurses: The University of Virginia School of Nursing, 1901-2001, and the Race in Healthcare website. We will continue to add to the website throughout the year and into the school’s future.
