Helen C. Perry
Helen C. Perry was born on August 6, 1846, in Troy, New York. She grew up in Hunter, New York, with her grandmother Hannah Hall and her uncle David Hall. Her grandmother worked as a “house keeper,” and by 1860, the family owned $100 of personal property. She taught school in Catskill, New York, in 1864, and she married Terence Barden on January 13, 1868. Their daughter Bessie was born around 1873.
 
They lived in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, and her husband worked in the livery business. By 1870, the family owned $9,000 of real estate and $5,000 of personal property. Her husband eventually became the “proprietor” of the Windermere Hotel in New York. Her husband died of consumption in February 1887. By the early 1890s, she was living in New York City. She and her daughter traveled abroad in 1891, and her passport application described her as 5 feet, 4 inches tall, with black hair and black eyes. She died in New York City on December 5, 1930.
