My dear father and mother
I it is with much plasure that i seete my self to rite a few lines to you to let you now that i am well at presant and hope these few lines will find you the same i receive a letter from you that you sent to Ira and he was not hear so i open it and found some gum in it and i tell you it was good i cood not send it to him so i took the paper and rote on it and sent it to you and i got a letter from / Lucy the same time that she sent to Ira and i red it and put it in the fire for i cood not git it to him and i cood not keepe them and i got one from Harett and i done the same by her i was glad to hear from you all and was glad to hear from you all that you was well you wanted me to rite and tell you what i thot a bout the ware i think the ware is most over and i think the fiten is don now well i must tell you that Wales has met with a mishfortune in the of the first of April he was hit with a pease of a shell / in the sholder and it tore a hole about 2 inches wid and fore inches long but did not brake eny bones and i thick that he will git over it in time it will take some time for it to heal up and i want you to tell frank Coolidge that Olven was hit in the lage jest beloe the nee it was nothen but a flesh wound and i think he will git over it soon if nothen hapens to him i did not see him i hav not seen Ira in too weekes he lost his horse and went to dis monted camp / and i hav not heard from him sence but i supose you hav heard from him before this time i wish i was to home with him and i think that i and he will before long fore the tock is hear that caverly is all agoen to be discharge soon and i hope it my be so i cant think of eny more to rite for this time only i want you to pray for us that we may git home all rite and that before long i will close by asken you to rite as soon as you git this
