Rhoda Torrance (maiden name unknown) was born around 1813 in Vermont. She married Russell Torrance, and they had at least seven children: William, born around 1832; Ephraim, born around 1834; Isaac, born around 1837; Elizabeth, born around 1840; Adoniram, born around 1842; Jane, born around 1846; and Eleanor, born around 1848. They lived in Jay, New York, and her husband worked as a laborer and farmer. By 1850, they owned $500 of real estate, and by 1860, their wealth had grown to $900 of real estate and $592 of personal property. Her husband died on January 11, 1873. By 1880, she was living in her son William’s household in Jay, and by 1900, she was living in her daughter Jane’s household. She died in Jay on November 22, 1900.
