June 21st 1865
Dear Parents
Tis with much plesher that I seat my self to pen hou a few lines to let you no that I am still in the land of the living and well and hope theas few lines will find you all the same to
Well Father there will bea a man by the name of Partlow that I sent to get some money that I owe him for a watch and some other things for I took his plase at head Quarters so you see that I couldent get along without them So you can put him off tell him that you will pay him / next pay day or the 15 of next month and before then I shall send you some money for we exspect to get paid of soon
Well I have got a good plase Dont have much to do all there is to do is to take care of the dishes wait on the Generals table buy the stuff to eat have a horse to ride go to the City every day and have jest as good to eat as the General does And you have always heard me say that General Gety was a good man so he is Dont pay this man put him off som how if you can posebly for I hadto have the things in order to keep things all right But put him off all you can Tell him that the wrighting / dont look like my righting Have some excuse so to not pay him tell him that you will wright to to me and see if I sent the order to bea paid so dont pay him and you cant till send you some money
Well I cant wright very often but you must jest as often as 3 times a weeak or more tell Jain and all of them to wright to me and when I get a chance I will do the same to them tell Gorge the same to How air the chrilden so on and so forth
Well all of the one year men and sixty to men wer musterd out and started for home this morning the 20th and there is no signes of the Vets geting out before ther time is up / We lay /6/ six milds from home Washington
