catharine Dear wife this evening I seat my self to rite you a few lines to let you no that I am in bad health as usual and hope these lines may reach your hand and find you and billey well For I know that I never was in half as much trouble about your health as I am now I have rote two letters to you since I have been here and got no answer yet and I have troublesom dreams of nights about you and billey and I wat you to write the quickest you ever did for gods sake / and tell me all about it for I had rather be dead than to be in this fix I have not been examined yet but I will be before I go Fitzpatrick has tole me a few lies and I am geting in the notion to talk to him and if he denies the power he has I will step off and go home I am determined to ride to Little Rock when I go there
The prospect for peace is fine I am here [paper blot] I get all the news we captured 9000 prisner at Savanah and captured 3 gun boats and sunk another at charleston and the yankees is daily / deserting their camps and comeing to Little rock and taking the oath of parole and going home and say they will never fight us again I have seen some men that will tell the truth that says they have seen from one man to 3,000 men come in a day and take the oath and go home they say they volunteered to fite for the union the they say are fiteing for the negroes and the wont fite any longer the news has just come that the yankees have burned three of our boats at the mouth of Red river which I recon is true well now as for my / going home from here there is no chance under Heaven for a man cant get justice here but I will make them treat me acording to orders and when I get there I will report unable for duty and go to the horse pital and be practised on 30 days and then demand my discharge If you have not partitioned for me yet be sure to do it quick mail it to little rock remember I am a private of Co (B) and 28th reg Texas cavalry if you will send up that partition I can get back after they practice on me 30 days if no partition / the chance will be much worse I had as leave they would practis on me and no it as for them to practis on me an not no it we will leave here next wednesday I want you to rite soon and direct the letter to Shreveport tell sona that I hearn that Joel is up and about
I must come to a close rite soon and tell me how your arm has got take care of my horse for we will be apt to be remounted soon take good care of my sweet babe and kiss him every day for me the lord only nows how I want to see him and you I feel worse about leaving home this time than I ever did before I have rote the whole truth to you and I want you to do the same I will rite every week and I want you to do the same for all the satisfaction I will see will be in hearing from you so nothing more at present but remaining your
