Dear Mother
I take my pen in hand to inform you that I am well and hope these few lines may find you in good health. I have just received your letter of the 28th and was sorry to hear that father was foolish enoug to join the army. I dont see how he come to join at all leaveing nobody at home to take care of the things I want you write and let me know what in the thunder made him do it and also write and let me know how you expect to take care of the stock and tell me what regiment and what is the number of the reg he is in and if he is not in yet tell him to keep out for god sake I have not received a letter for some 2 weeks at / least and do the best you can and write a little oftener than you have been doing write and tell me whether the threshing is done yet or not. it just looks to me like we never will be worth nothing we will get our money before the 12th day of this month but if you can get some postage staps I would be very glad. I am going to send my money home as soon as I can get a chance but I must quit writing for this time give my love and best respects to all write as soon as you can and Direct as before
