Dear Mother
I take my pen in hand to inform you that I am well and hope these few lines may find you all in good health

We are building winter quarters and a hard time we have too the mud and snow and rain is awful the snow is about 6 inches deep in the valley this morning and I cant tell how deep on the mountains. I have not got any letters from you for some time and I think you must have forgot me. I got a letter from Pa he was at the mouth of salt River. I have come to the conclusion to keep my money awhile after we get payed off and if I can get a furlough I will come home on a visit if it costs me $20

Tell Rebecca I got a letter from her dated the 2ond. tell Lina and rachel they must be good girls and mind Mother and sometimes think of brother George. Give my love to all
