George W. Young to Mary Young et al., 20 December 1861
Camp Wickliffe Ky Dec the 20th 1861
Dear Mother and sisters
I take my pen in hand to address you a few lines.
I am well at present and hope when they reach you they may find in good health I sent you a few lines some days ago one to Henry an and I put them in different envelops when I sent them and may be I sent the wrong one to you but it dont make much difference anyway I have not received but two letters since I was at home one from father and one from the west fork of Indian kentuck…
Our General talked of stopping all private correspondence but the order was countermanded
We are now about 65 miles from Louisville 12,000 strong and drilling 8 hours a day We are on the L and N Pike and if the 37th dont join our division I may not get to see the boys at all I was on guard last night and had to come to my quarters on account of being sick but I felt some better this / morning.
Our Orderly 1th and 5th sergeants are reduced to ranks for going home and 6 of our privates are in the guard house and our first Lieut has resigned and our 2ond Lieut is under close arrest and I got to the reg just in time to save myself
I believe I have written all I know and that was but little and I dont expect you can read what I have wrote I want you all to write as soon as you get this and Direct to New haven Ky
Yours Ever
G. W. Young
