Camp Wickliffe Ky Dec 29th 1861
Dear Mother and sisters
I take my pen in hand to inform you that I am not very well at present but I hope those few lines may find you in good health
Dec 30th
I felt so bad yesterday that I had to quit writing but feel some better to day but I have got the Reumatism very bad my knees are swelled as big as my head.
I have got but one letter from home since I was there but I think I will get one to day Our captain and first Lieut have resigned their Offices and gone home and I think the Co will be disbanded with / dishonor if they dont do better there is 10 of our Co in the guard house and 24 of us got excused by the doctor this morning
So that left the company small but I must write better or you cant read it We will get our pay again in about 2 weeks we were mustered for pay yesterday
There is a great many dieing here in camp now and all that is not dead are sick and I presume that there will be no trouble mustering us out of service if they keep us 3 years
Not changeing the subject much I bought a pint of molasses this morning and gave 25cts for them and just now happened to look up and saw one of the boys licking the tin cup
So good bye lasses
Well I cant find any thing to write so I had better quit
Well Rebecca I got a letter from away over on the other side of concord and it beat all the letters you ever saw to be the ice breaker Tell Lina and Rachel to be good girls and go to school when ever Mother can spare them write soon
Yours Ever
