Dear Mother
I take the present opportunity to inform you that I am well as usual and hope these few lines may find you all in good health we marched from our old camp the 10th of this month and marched 18 miles and are now encamped within half a mile of green river but the name of our camp is not changed as the division is scattered from new haven to green river. I think we will stay here sometime as we have fixed up a very nice camp. I have got me some puncheons and layed me a floor to sleep on and I expect to live at home while I am not on picket at least. we are camped in 8 miles of munfordsville in a very healthy place and have plenty of good water. I guess we will only get our mail once a week and I dont know when the mail will will go out but I will send this the first / chance I get. I think my cough is getting some better I have a very bad soreness in my breast but I think it will be better soon.
we have not been payed off yet and I expect we will not for two months yet. write to me as often as you can and give my respects to all so no more at present
but remain yours Affectionately

Dear Sister
I again take my pen in hand to drop you a few lines. I have not got a letter from you for sometime but I am expecting one nex mail. in one of your letters you accused me of going to see some one in versailes that I never saw and dont think I ever heard of. but we will argue about that when I get back home, if ever I am so fortunate as to get back and I / think I will get back some time I wish you would write and let me know where you heard that about the grass widow for if any body attacks me in the rear while I am gone I will give them battle if ever I get back by the eternal I know several infernal two faced cusses already
well I must quit for this time so no more at present
but remain your Affectionate brother

Dear Mother
things has changed so much since I wrote yesterday I thought I would write some more / we got marching orders last evening at 4 oclock and was ordered to take 4 days rations, but by some means or other the order was countermanded last night about 10 oclock and I understood this morning that we was transfered into annother division, and I think we will go back and go down the river yet, though time will show and as I dont expect to mail this for a few days maybe I will have some more news to write. it snowed last night in the after part of the night and the snow is 2 inches deep to day and very cold. I am supernumary to day and if any of our boys get sick I will have to stand guard to night and as the atmosphere is pretty chilly I think it will be good night for some of them to get violently ill.
Monday Feb 17th we have not got any mail yet. Our Co is out on picket today but I was not able to go as I have the rheumities very bad I guess we will have to march again day after to morrow and I am afraid I will not be able to go. I think I have a hard time soldiering. I will wait now untill the mail comes in and then finish my letter and send it. I am afraid it will not come though for it is after 3 oclock now there is annother regt brigade coming into camp now on their road from bardstown and one of the regt is the 35th Ind irish regiment / and I suppose we will all take up our line of march for munfordsville day after to morrow and if I dont get to ride God only knows how I will get along. I believe I will close. Give my respects to all write as soon as you can and I will write as soon as I can I will bid you good bye again
yours Affectionately
