George W. Young to Mary Young, 5 March 1862
Bowlinggreen Ky. March the 5th 62

Dear Mother
I take this opportunity to inform you that I am well at present and hope these few lines may find you all in good health. we are now in Bowling green at last and I expect we will go on toward Nashville in a few days the 37th I expect are in Nashville now and there is so many soldiers ahead of us that we never will get to see a rebel

I would say some thing about marching for the last week through drenching rains &c. but there is no use for nobody can describe the time we have had I got the flask of sirup from you a few days ago I have been taking it regular and my cough is getting a great deal better

this has been a beautiful town and now it is a perfect wreck and not half dozen white families in the place /

Tell Lina and Rachel I would like to be at home and help them make sugar but I expect it will to late to make sugar when I get back

Rebecca wrote to me that Charley kreger come over to our house and said that I told Gotsch that that he was broke up and I never told him any such thing. uncle George wrote to me about buying Charleys farm and it was about the time that shield and Guttimiller went up and I told thumes and Gotsch something about uncle George talking of buying Charleys farm I guess Gotsch got scared and wrote to [?] something about it

the boys are going to send a piece of German writing and I want you to give it to Charley

Give my love to all

write soon

yours Affectionately
George W Young
