Hospital No. 1. Louisville Ky
August 11th 1862

Dear Mother
I take my pen in hand this morning to address you a few lines which I hope will find you all well. I am going about without my crutches my leg is as good as ever it is nearly healed up and is doing very nice there has been no body sent north since you was here except the Michigan boys the Ohio boys think they will get to go to day / I am going to be sent to the regt as soon as my wound heals entirely up which I think it will by the 20th of the month I have got but 2 letters since you have got home and maybe I will get annother this morning. I will quit writing untill the mail comes

no letter this morning I was almost certain I would get one.

I am going to stay here untill the 1st of august if I can so I can get payed off and send / my money home from here for if they was to send me to the regt a long toward the last of this month likely I would get to the regt to late and not get payed untill the first of November but I guess the money is the safest in Old sams hands any way. I wish something had happened that I had missed every pay day untill the last one for I see in spite of friendly bullets I will survive my money too long to be agreeable. I want you / and father to write to me often. give my respects to all of the folks my love to Lina and Rachel

yours Affectionately
Geo. W Young
