Dear Mother I received a letter from you yesterday which found me well and I hope these few lines may find you all in good health day before yesterday we moved up within 3 miles of Nashville on the murfreesboro road and yesterday I went to see the 37th Ind Father was discharged and has started home I expect he is there by this time a great many of the boys / has got the ague. I believe their regt can steal nearly so well as ours. (I stayed there last night) about 40 of our regt was taken prisioner and paroled by Morgan between Lebanon and Nashville and our General sent them to Nashville and then paraded them around the streets with red caps on and disgraced them all they could and now I guess they will make them come back to / the regt one of our boys just come in and says our regt and 9 other Indiana regts are going to Vicksburg with General Reynolds that will suit me very well our paroled recruits are coming in this morning
if Father has got home yet tell him we are camped close to where the 37 was when I came to it last spring I got them socks you sent me at Colombia Ky and was very glad to get them then but I have plenty now
I got that five dollars Secesh it is played out around town now I wish we would start south soon
I will have to quit this morning for it is too cold to write
