George W. Young to Amaziah Young and Mary Young, 27 September 1863
Camp at priors ford Tennessee
Sunday Sept 27th 1863

Dear Father and Mother
I take the present opportunity to inform you I am well at present and hope these few lines will find you all in good health

Old Rosey is still picking away at them our brigade received the first attact on friday over a week ago and stayed with them Saturday and Sunday last the two hard fighting days and then we were sent here to guard this ford 7 miles above Chattanooga and we have not been troubled yet but some of the reb Cavalry may try to cross yet. one week ago yesterday we held our position on the right center with but little loss and one week ago today we took our position on the right and about 10 oclock our whole brigade charged just like a lot of splendid cusses ran over a heavy line of reb skirmishers and would have been going yet I expect / had not one of our divisions on our left give way so the lightning brigade had to try the retrograde

I dont know the loss of the brigade. our regt lost about 15 killed and wounded. I dont think the rebs has got any more bulets for me I know nothing of what is going on in front of Chattanooga I expect you know more than I do about it we was in Georgia 9 days and was fighting 7 of them

I have got 3 old letters wrote that I could not mail I will mail all of them to day and maybe some of them will get through

I have got no letters for a long time

Give my love and respect to all

no more at present but remain your Affct Son
Geo. W. Young
