Dear friend
i will now send you a few lines to let you know some thing about Osgood and the people that is in it and it will all be sad news Ma is dead she died the 27 of january and we burried her the 30 She was sick all winter Willie has bin sick again but he is getting well now there has bin a great deal of sickness here this winter there was eight died in one week here at osgood We had a big fire here last night Mr Marches / Drug Store and Mr Swartz house and Marble shop was burned to the ground Mr Swartz saved most all they had in they the house but Mr March and Dorci Brenton never saved a thing Dorci lived above the Drug Store and they was away from home they had four hundred dollars in money burned with the rest of the things kate Brown was working for them and she had all her clothes and 27 dollars in money she lost all but the dress she had on it was set on fire they tracked the man that done it out acrost the lot but they dont know why it was but osgood has to stand / its part of the bad luck the high water has done so much damage it has took Lawrenceburg all away but one corner is all of it that is left and newport is all under water and Ell lost all her clothes up there but some of her best dresses and they are in the water and she cant get over to them i want you to write and tell us how the winter served you out there we still live in the same house you left us in and i think we will stay here this summer Well you wanted me to tell you about that best tick i have nothing to tell you about it you and your soninlaw tom / packed up the things and you ought to know but i am very thankful to you for excusing me of taking what did not belong to me for you are the first one to say that i did i have none but my own and they are made out of bed ticking they are not muslin ticks i will quit for this time give my best regards to Mrs Beebe and Jane tell them i think if them often i will close by saying write soon good by from
