Dear Mother
I take my pen in hand this evening to address you a few lines. I have not got a letter from you for sometime but I hope I will get one soon the last one I got Rebecca was sick and I have written two since I have not heard from father for about two weeks. I expect he must be sick. well I believe the best news we have in camp is that Zollicoffer is killed and his / army defeated. we are still in camp wickliffe where we have been for more than two months we have been expecting our pay for a week or two but I heard yesterday that we would not get payed off untill our next two months pay was due I think we will leave here this coming week and I wish we would go on further south for it was pretty cold sleeping last night on the cold ground. our regiment is in tolerable good health at present and there has not a great many deaths occurred since we came to Ky.

I am doing pretty well for blankets and clothing when I first came to the regt I / had nothing but the blanket aunt Sarah gave me and in a few days there was a box of blankets come from franklin and I got annother excellent one out of it and then we all drawed New regulation blankets weighing 12 pounds each and now I have got as much as I can carry but still they dont keep me warm enough to cure my bad cough but the winter is now half gone and I hope next summer will finish the war

I wrote a letter to uncle George some time ago and have never got an answer yet uncle milt also owes me one or two and I wrote one to uncle John and / the next evening I got one from him and that was the quickest answer I ever got

Well I must quit for this time Give my respects to Grandfather and Mother and all the folks and write as often as convenient

so no more at present

but remain your Affectionate Son
G W Young
