I expect I could / have got a furlough myself if I had tried but we will march soon I think and I am a going to try my chance It is very muddy now and a raining nearly every day and we have awful bad water to drink O I wish we was in Virginia again. we are going to have an awful hard time this winter and I am afraid I will not stand it very well for I am not half as stout as I used to be but I will try you know fortune smiles on the brave. our Capt has resigned and we have got annother good one that wont show partiality and if I keep my health I think maybe / I will get up a little yet. at least I hope so I have got several letters from you and rebecca and I have not wrote very many for I have not got much time to write like I used to have in Va. I get a letter from father every day or so he was well the last letter I got.
