Travis Hensley to Julia F. Hensley, 19 June 1863
Camp Bisland La. near
Pattersonville La. June 19th 1863

My Darling Julia
Our asst' Surgeon Dr Matson who leaves this place for Houston this evening has kindly offered to take a letter for me to the Office at that place

I wrote to you only a few days since from Camp Hunter by hands of my friend Junius Hillper of Goliad. Since then we have no news of any importance, further than a rumor from Port Hudson which seems to be reliable, that Taylor with 8000 men and 2000 beeves had crossed the river and reinforced our Genl Gardiner at that place. if this be true we needs have no fears for our success there

Since our arrival here we have had two or three alarms of the enemy's crossing the Bay but when our troops moved down to meet him he has always recrossed, so that we have had no fight here yet. We have only about 1800 Cavalry, and two Batterys of Artillery at this point.

I do not anticipate any general fight here unless the enemy is repulsed from Port Hudson in which event he will probably bring his whole force down the Atchafalaya and attempt to capture our small army here.

Our Lavaca boys are all very well. Jimmy / Thompson has gone on business to Shreveport but has I presume written by the Dr

Capt Canfield is still with us and in fine health. Charley has not yet returned. We fear he has not recovered.

I am still quite buisy with my papers but will be through in a few days and will then write you a long letter

Give my love to all and to your self & our dear little ones receive many kisses

                                    Believe me Darling ever yours

                             Travis
