dear father and mother
bruthers and sisters i now have the opertuneity of riteing to you all to let you no that i am well hoping these fu lines will find you all in joing the same i reseaved your leter the 21 and i was glad to here from you and i wold be glad to see you and be with you all onest more i started a leter to William bramblet last wensday and i am glad to here that thay reseaved my leter in the church the first rigment of N.C. was ingaged with the enemy for 5½ hours and the lose of our side was one man cild and seven wonded and the lose of the enemy was 250 men and their was 4½ rigments of the enemy
well ann dont let the time seme long with you for i think that i will com back and if i dont i hope that we will all meat in heven to liv for ever more and bery and pery and matson you must all be good boys
the S.C. volunteers cam thru raleigh but i never made it tel thay had past by and i herd that thay have had a battle sincs but i dont suspose that it is so
i fetcht my jackit with me
i have nothing more to rite at present
