John Hinsch to Francis J. Parker, 1 March 1863
Camp near Falmouth Va March 1st 1863.
Col. Francis J. Parker

Colonel
Having returned to my Regiment I thought it my duty to write to you and acquaint you of the fact.

I had to wait a week in Washington to be mustered in, it took all that time to let red tape have its course, but now I have got back, and in good time to be mustered on the February roll. I have been assigned to Comp. I Capt Norton, and I find this comp. about in the same condition as Co H when I first joined it, but by prompt attention to duty I / shall endeavor to enforce discipline, at least as far as I am concerned. Since you have left us, our Regiment has suffered much in its reputation, and no doubt you have heard of it ere this. I suppose it aint my place to write all the particulars about it to you, but if you wish me to, I shall be happy to inform you of all, sufficient is to say that the 32d is malignantly slandered, "and that innocently", but through this very accident the Executive Department in Massachusetts will realize the value of Col Parker and Adjt. Cobb.

Lt. Kingsbury has received his commission. I expect he is going to Massachusetts. No doubt he will call upon you, and give you a more minute detail of matters about the Regiment.

The Officers and men of the 32d are / well, the mud has been kneedeep for a while, but we had fine weather of late and it is drying up fast. Allow me to tender you my sincere thanks for your exertions and benevolence towards me and I shall endeavor to act in a way that you shall not be ashamed of me, at least personally. Please give my regards to Adjutant Cobb.

I remain
your obedient servant
John Hinsch. /
