Francis J. Parker to John A. Andrew, 14 May 1863
Boston May 14 1863.

Your Excellency.
I have received from the U.S. Government about 2000 $ for my military services which through you were proffered as a free offering.

The circumstances of field service added to my own heedless habits in matters of private expenses prevent absolute accuracy in accounts but I reckon up $1818.15 as my outlay to this time of which $337.87 has been paid since I left the regiment in various ways to promote the comfort of officers & men and for their families who at one time, failing the payment of the troops, were much straightened.

The regiment was for 7 months without pay and during that time I disbursed money freely for the benefit of the men and as nearly as an estimate can be made to the amount of five hundred dollars in all up to the time of my discharge.

I respectfully request that I may be allowed to consider the whole sum received as a fund for similar purposes to be disbursed at my discretion and that the sum of 800 dollars may be considered as already paid therefrom, & hereafter I will account to you for all disbursements.

Very respectfully
 YrobtSevt.
     Frans J Parker.

H.E.
            Hon John A Andrew.
