J. C. Fuller to Francis J. Parker, 27 May 1863
Hd. Qtrs. Artillery Reserve A.P.
May 27th 1863

Dear Sir.
It is within a few minutes of the hour when one year ago I rec'd from your hands the commission I now hold and was assigned to Co. "C" (notorious Co. "C") Then, my promotion came unexpectedly, but nonetheless pleasantly, and feeling that were I capable of a Captaincy then, I should be dull indeed were I not competent to advance now. For you to give me as good a recommendation for honesty, faithfulness, and military ability as you can this communication is penned. My chance in the Regt. is in the dim distance lost, now they have a contract to guard the railroad, if it were possible to see it before. The Gov's. confidence in your judgement induces me to urge you to do this thing for me as thoroughly as you can. Should you feel willing to thus assist me and will direct to me, addressed to His Excellency, you will place me under renewed obligations.

Very Truly Yours
  J. C. Fuller,
  Capt. 32d Mass. Vol. Inf.

Francis J Parker Esq.
