George L. Prescott to Francis J. Parker, 3 March 1864
Head Quarters
32nd Mass Vols
Liberty Va March 3 64
Dear Colonel
Yours of the 29th recd.
Capt Tay found your receipt to me for 95 2/3 Smooth bore muskets & Hoyt has given me duplicate Invoices of the Enfield, so I am all right, did not know how to get along with the other third of a gun, but finally accounted for the 96 as all turned over to you. So if you find yourself charged with one third of a gun send in your bill. Gen Bartlett told me the understanding was that the men have to have thirty days in Mass. And if we had been ten days in getting home, it was not our fault, but the Government / in not furnishing transportation Our men are having very hard picket duty now. one fourth of the men have only one night in, the picket line runs within a stones throw of our camp, hope we shall not get gobbled.
My Mother wrote me a few days ago that a letter came to me from you since I came away asking about the arrangements for your Supper to the Officers of the 32nd it was missent and did not get to [?] until after I left so you will please excuse me for the seeming neglect The officers are all well write me when you have leisure. And believe /
me
Very truly Yours
In haste
G L. Prescott
