Everett C. Bumpus to Francis J. Parker, 21 March 1864
Gulloups Island March 21st/64

Col Parker
                        Dear Sir
When we left the Fort I had all my command with me but two (they were left in the Hospital) at Jersey City. I took 94 guns which I put on my memorandum book. If you recolect right it was some little time after we arrived in Washington before receipts were given & in consequence of having several men detailed in the various departments of the Regt that when receipts were given the number might been 90 instead 94. But I had 94 in the commencement. I have made my report to the Ordnance Department up to July 1862 & it will have to go so &c

From the 1st of July/62 to Jany 1st 63 I shall have to make my report in the absence of vouchers as no vouchers were given / in for guns & equipments turned in either by death went to the hospital deserted or put in to ambulance & went to the rear & missing in action. Quarter Master Hoyt never would give vouchers for reasons unbeknown to me. When I make up the ballence of 1862 I shall make an Affidavit to the report & let it slide

I am yours with respect
