Augusta R. Thurlow to Francis J. Parker, 11 June 1864
Methuen June 11th /64
Col. Parker
Dear Sir.
When I recd your kind letter I had just returned from Washington where I had been visiting my father.
He feels that he owes his success entirely to you. He wished me to call on my return and thank you for him. I should have done so but arrived in Boston early Sunday morning and took the first train for home on Monday morn. I have the promise of a situation in the P.O. at Washington and expect very soon to pass through Boston on my return to that city. I shall make an effort to / call on you. I received a letter from Isaac. He is now acting as 2 Lieut. Co. E. 36th U.S. Col Troops. Point Lookout, Md. He is soon to be examined and fears he will not pass. He wrote that he should rather be 'shot' than be returned to his his Reg. He will stand a poor chance if obliged to talk much.
I thank you most sincerely for all you have done for him.
Very truly yours
Augusta R. Thurlow
