Francis J. Parker to William S. Tilton, 26 May 1865
Boston, May. 26. 1865
General
Upon reflection I am convinced that there would be a certain impropriety in the attempt to represent the 32d Massachusetts Infantry in the procession on June 1st, because the regiment yet exists as an organization in the field and I can imagine that the duplication of it at home would hardly be pleasant to the officers and men yet in service to whom as custodians of the flag belong properly its honors & its name.
I hope that the past officers and men, may, in battalion organization unite one of these days in welcoming home the regiment at its discharge and remembering that many of your own gallant regiment are now included with the 32d I shall hope for your presence on that occasion
Very truly yours
Brev. Brig. Gen.
W. S. Tilton
