I am directed by the President to acknowledge the receipt of your communication of the 27th ultimo in behalf of Colonel Edmunds, late of 32d Mass. Vols. and to state that if Col. Edmunds has been wrongfully dis-missed, the way in which he can obtain redress is pointed out in the 12th Section, Chap. 19 of an "Act of Congress" of March 3d 1865, which provides for his trial by General Court Martial upon his sub-mitting the required affidavit to the Department of War.
