John B. Campbell
John B. Campbell was born around 1841. He lived in Newberry, South Carolina.
 
He enlisted in the Confederate army on April 14, 1861, and he mustered in as a private in Company B of the 3rd South Carolina Infantry on June 6. According to his service records, he was 5 feet, 5 inches tall, with black hair and black eyes. The regiment took part in the First Battle of Manassas, the Peninsula campaign, the Battle of Antietam, the Battle of Fredericksburg, the Battle of Chancellorsville, and the Battle of Gettysburg.
 
He was “wounded slightly at Fredericksburg. Union forces captured him at Gettysburg in July 1863 and imprisoned him at Fort Delaware. He remained there until June 10, 1865, when he swore an oath of allegiance to the Union. He died sometime after the war.
