Christian Appelfeller
Christian Appelfeller was born on July 19, 1825, in present-day Germany. He eventually immigrated to America and settled in Ohio. He married Sarah Green on February 24, 1852, and they had at least four children: Laura, born around 1852; Corline, born around 1855; Edward, born around 1860; and Lorena, born around 1870. He enlisted in the Union army, and he served in Company F of the 44th Ohio Infantry. He lived in Leesburg, Ohio, after the war, and he earned a living as a blacksmith. By 1870, he owned $300 of real estate and $300 of personal property. He moved to Taylor, Ohio, in the 1870s. He applied for a federal pension in September 1878 and eventually received one. He died on March 11, 1887.
