Rowland Robinson was born around 1821 in Cambridge, New York. He married a woman named Mary, and they had at least five children: Jennie, born around 1852; Millard, born around 1854; Julia, born around 1856; Charles, born around 1858; and George, born around 1861. He worked as a farmer in Easton, New York, and by 1850, he owned $5,100 of real estate. He eventually moved to Sodus, New York, and by 1870, he owned $11,100 of real estate and $4,000 of personal property. His wife died in the late 1800s.
According to a local writer, he was “one of the best known men in politics and grange circles in the county.” He supported the Republican Party, and he served a term in the state legislature. He also spent several years as town supervisor, and he served as president of the Grand Insurance Company. He died in Sodus on July 25, 1904.
