Waterford May 21st 1856
Dear Father
I will improve this opportunity in writing to you We recieved your very affectionate letter last night and how glad we were to hear from you We recieved a letter from cousin Daniel Harvey and his Mother they were well and D is coming down this fall Aunt Jane said she had got the money to have you daguerreotype taken and if you had had it taken she should sent the money by Daniel but she said it was Harvey odity We got the letter that you sent with your picture about one week ago and the minature last night and your last letter the Daguerreotype was advertised you did not put Oranges name on it and you know they are very fond of getting the copper so they laid it one side I have just been down to Mr Ladds & Carrs and carried the picture we think it looks very natural but some what cross but I suppose you felt sober as you had to sit eight times Ben has got it now and says it looks just like pa Sis had to take it into bed with her this morning and Will said O it looks just like him Will has got a large bile on his neck and feels pretty lame Ira has / not seen the minature yet we are going over to the plain to day to get me a bonnet and carry it over I am in a hurry for I have got to write to Uncle Rufe so as to put it in the Office Isaac has wrote one letter to you and directed to LaPorte be sure and answer it my school begins the first monday in June We are all well as usual If you can not read this you must do the best you can I will write as soon as I get to keeping school I have had another letter from Q Heath and he says he has not seen you yet and if you go there go on the Milwauke & Lacross Railroad they send their best respects to you and want you to go there and they would like to have you write to them if you do direct to Mr John Heath Marcellon Columbia county Wisconsin I think we shall go into the Saloon and see how they will take a picture or so Volney is to work there and we are going to have some taken when we get money enough I cannot write any more so good by

Dear Husband I cannot write much this time we are all well as for mother she has ben more unwell than when you left but is rather beter now I can tell you that I that I feal very anxious about you I hope that we shall all be spared to meet again If not let us be prepared to met above on Gods right hand /
