Lavina Johnson (maiden name: Bottomly) was born on August 25, 1828, in Leicester, Massachusetts, to Samuel and Hannah Bottomly. Her father was a wool sorter who owned $2,500 of real estate by 1850. She grew up in Leicester, and she attended Monson Academy. She married Andrew J. Johnson on July 4, 1850, and they apparently had no children. They lived in Brighton, Massachusetts, and her husband worked as a bookkeeper. They moved to Holliston, Massachusetts, in the 1860s and then to Shirley, Massachusetts, in the 1870s. Her husband died on July 21, 1890, and she eventually returned to Leicester. She probably lived with her sister Nancy in Cohoes, New York, sometime in the early 1900s. She died of “senility following fract[ure] of thigh” in Dover, New Hampshire, on July 31, 1912.
