Lewis V. Tucker to Deborah O. Tucker, 9 November 1863
Marine Hospital New Orleans
Nov 9th 1863

 Dear Wife
you may think it strang that I should write you two letters in one day. But since I wrote you the other one this morning I have red two from you and a Newark paper and a letter from Jennings so I thought I would write and let you know that I had got another letter from you because I wrote this morning that it was a long time since I heard from you I should have got them sooner but they went to the Regiment and came back before I got them One of them was the one that you wrote at Ovid and the other mailed the 17th of October. I shall not write this to night in answer to yours but simply to let you know that I have got them Tell Lilly that I thank her very much for her present to me and that I will write her a letter / and put in that envelope and send her the next time that I write It grieves me to hear that she is sick be careful of her as I know you will and do not delay in getting a doctor when any of you are sick and especially so when there is any sign of Diphtheria

Give my best respects to Mr & Mrs Heath and thank for me for their kindnesses to you since I have been gone tell them I shall be glad to hear from them at any and at all times when it is convenient for them to write

I am feeling much better to night than I did this morning when I wrote the other letter I have had a good ride and the fine bracing air has done me good I have not felt so well for two week as I do to night probably your letters have helped some at any rate write more and see if they do not do me good Send them direct to me by way of New York to the Marine hospital in care of Doctor Powers I shall get them from one to two weeks sooner that way

One thing I would like for you to do that is have Mr Heath or some one get you a Rochester paper one that has the result of the New York elections in and send me you can give them money enough to buy it with by so doing it will oblige me much I put $10. in the letter that I wrote you this morning I sent it to you in care of Mr Reynolds

But it is late. I will stop for this time

you may tell Frank that if he will help you work that I will send him money to pay him for it and write him a good long letter to

My Love to you all as usual
From
L. V. Tucker

[fourth side sideways written]

What I wrote in my letter this morning
about French was simply because
I thought that they needed all that
they could get and the money is
due them and they can get it by
going to work right     L.V.T
