Miss Lilly May Tucker
My dear girl pa has promised you for a good while that he would write you a letter and to night I will write it
Well my dear what shall I write to you Ma has told me all about what a good girl you be so pa cannot scold you can he well I do not want to scold you for I do not think that you need it but I am glad that you are so good a girl it makes me feel proud of you to think that the little girl that pa left home last fall is a going to be such a lady and mind Ma by being a good girl all the time Lilly all the folks will like you and say when they see you there is lilly Tucker that little lady Pa was very sorry lilly when Ma wrote to me that you was sick it made me feel very bad to think my girl was sick. Now Lilly I want you to be very carefull and not go out doors much in the snow and wet so that you will get cold and be sick again for pa is coming home bye and by and he dont want to / see you well and not sick Well Lilly pa is way down here to new Orleans it is not so cold here now as it is at home there is no snow here but the birds have all gone but there is lots of posies there is nice red roses a very plenty and lots of other flowers when I have a chance I will get a rose and send it to you in a letter
Pa is going to get his picture taken and send to you and Ma and Frank so that you can see how I look down here and some day when it is warm Ma must take you and Frank and go to Newark and get all of yours taken and send to me so that I can see how you look it has been a good while since I saw you but I am coming to see you again sometime they are not always going to keep me here away from you if Pa is here in the spring he will send you a nice new dress for being a good girl
But pa must stop writing for this time lilly and after a while he will write to you again
