Lewis V. Tucker to Deborah O. Tucker, 9 February 1864
Marine Hospital New Orleans L'a Feby 9th 1864
Dear Wife
According to what I promised in my last letter I I will write you another one to day but like the others it will be short as I have not much to write at present
I wrote a letter to day to Mr Reynolds I am a going to send a box home in a few days and shall send it to him those blankets that he wanted will be in the box which he can take out and the rest of the stuff is for you. I send the box to him because that I have not got the money to pay the freight on it but when I send you money again you can pay it back to him. The blankets are not new ones but yet they are pretty good ones and the best that I could get with out buying them. These are a pair that a man had that was here in the ward in the fore part of the winter he deserted and as the blankets was under my charge I claim them and shall send them to Mr Reynolds. they are about as good as that one that I got at Auburn and brought home. When I send the box I will write to you and give you a list of what I put in it all but the blankets are for you.
I send Lilly another book to day with this letter There has been a grand review to day in front of the hospital of the Cavalry and artilery that is here in the city there was a line of them four deep a mile and a half long that was all Cavalry then there was several batterys besides it took them an hour to pass the hospital there was 5000 of them beside the Artilery companies. They are getting ready to start for Texas now pretty soon
Well I suppose that I am elected to serve the rest of my time here in this hospital. this morning I found out that I had been put into the invalid Corps and then detailed to serve the rest of my time here but I am going now to try to get my discharge from the service for I do not want to stay here all of the time but I don know as I shall be able to get it I do try one reason that I have not tried to get before was because I knew that if I asked for it that I should be put into the Invalid Department and that is what I hate but they have got me into it without my knowing it for over two weeks afterward but I shall try to get out of it
I will stop writing again for this time but probably write again this week
Write often
yors as Ever
