Lewis V. Tucker to Deborah O. Tucker, 24 March 1864
Marine Hospital New Orleans L'a March 24th 1864

Dear Wife, I will write you a short letter to night although I have not much to write that will interest you more than to say that I am well as I have been since I have been in Louisianna and your letter that you wrote March the 4th and 5th stating that you and Lilly was better relieved me me from a goodeal of anxiety. I got last Saturday Sunday and I dreaded to open it for fear of bad news but when I did open it and read it I could hardly restrain myself to learn that you were better

I should have answered it before now but as I had spoken in my last letters of getting a furlough I waited to ascertain what the result would be but have not yet learned. But I think that I will be favorable. What I judge from is what the clerk said to day while he was in the ward. He came up to me and made the remark that I would have to be furloughed. he spoke in a way as if he wanted me to understand that there was one under way for me, but will not be so that I can start before the 15th or 20th of next month probably. it takes so long for them to do anything of that kind here longer than is needed I think

If this reaches you before Mr Reynolds goes West give him my best respects and thank him for me for the kindness that he has shown you since I have been gone, and be sure to get his address for I want to write to him.

Did he get that box before he went that I sent him

But I do not know as I have anything more to write this time only to say take the best care of your self that you can and the children to but I know that you will take care of them without my telling you to do it

The picture on this sheet is intended to represent the hospital here but it is a very poor representation it is so very dim. I hardly know what to say about your writing to me. Perhaps you had better wait until you hear from me again before you write for I shall write again in a day or two

No more this time but remain yors
as usual
