Dear Wife
I will write a little to you again this morning so that you may know that I am still well for that is about all that I have to write now for I am so very busy that I do not have a chance to go out at all lately. It is near two weeks since I have been as far from this room as to the gate of the yard and that is only about 15 rod from here so you see that I do not run around much at present

I hope that you are well long before this and enjoying your health again I have not heard how you was for a long time. Is Lilly well yet I hope she is long before this and franky to

I sent you in my last letter a one dollar bill and forgot to say anything about it that letter. I will send you another in this and more as fast as I can, do not / think that I am trying to stent you in money for I am not, but will explain to you when I see you which I hope will be before long

Well I must tell you what I hear about the 160th Yesterday I learned that about 70 of them were killed and wounded in the fight of Pleasant Hill about the 8th of this month Our killed and wounded all fell into the rebels hands and a number that was not hurt among them is Capt Vandusen and two of our Doctors Dr Armstrong and Fordyce. Armstrong is a prisoner and Fordyce cannot be found, whether he is killed or prisoner cannot be found out There was some of the Officers of every company killed or wounded The 160th was the only Regiment but what run that was the reason that so many was killed and wounded. The Regiment as near as I can learn is pretty well used up

Our Army was badly whipped although we claim a victory (as usual)

Gen Banks I hear is to be superceded by Gen McLernand

The weather here is very fine and pleasant but quite warm

I shall have to close as it is time for the mail to go to the Office

Write soon
Yours as Ever
