Lewis V. Tucker to Deborah O. Tucker, 15 June 1864
U. S. General Marine Hospital June 15th 1864

Dear Wife
this morning I will commence another letter to you so that I will have time enough to finish it before the mail goes north next Saturday
At present I have but very little to write more than simply to say how I am

I am as well as common with the exception of a cold in my head which keeps me pretty busy in keeping my nose clean Do you see that I have something to do this hot weather

Your letter of May 31st and June 1st I got Monday and as usual was very glad to get it particularly so as by that I learned of your getting the 20 dollars all right that I sent you in it If you had not got it, it seemed as if you would think that I had not sent it to you. I could not get rid of that idea for I knew that you needed it so much

You said that you had got Doctor Benedicts photograph that I sent you and you wanted to know if he was from Rochester he is not his home is in Cayuga County he is the surgeon of the 75th N.Y. and a gentleman in every sense of the word he has been a father to a good many of the soldiers here in the Army his time is out in two or three months I shall hate to see him leave for one of the best friends that a soldier has leaves when he goes home there is but few army officers like him

You said for me to send you all the photographs that I could well I have three to send you Aunt Sallys and two others I shall send you one in each letter until I send you the three and any others that I may get in the same way. if I ever become rich enough I will get a photograph album to put them in I will try and make enough here beside my wages to buy one and send home to you if I do not come and bring it myself

You will say come I presume. But it is easier said than done

Mr White is going home soon on a discharge And for his sake I am glad of it although I hate to loose his company yet it is the best thing that he could do for if he staid here he would not live until fall he is hardly able to get around now. He is going home by the way of New York and if it is possible I shall try and have him stop at Newark but I do not know as he will do it for I presume that he will be anxious to get home as soon as possible if he does consent to stop in Newark I will send some things home to you with him

I send you in this letter a photograph of one of the Wisconsin boys that I nursed up. The picture is not a very good one especially the face it is to dark and cloudy I wrote his name on the bottom of the picture There is some good boys here and he is one of them /
But I will close for this time

The next time that I write I will try and write to the children I meant to have done it this time but have not been able to do it. So if the next one comes to Frank or Lilly do not think that I have slighted you

Yours Truely as
Ever
L. V. Tucker
