Lewis V. Tucker to Deborah O. Tucker, 13 August 1864
Gen. U.S.A. Marine Hospital N. Orleans Aug 13th 1864

                        Dear Wife
I hardly know what to write you this morning although I have commenced a letter to you Yet I will write a little if it is not any more than enough to say that I have written to you again

I should have commenced this two or three days since but I have been sick so that I did feel as if I could write but as I am better this morning I thought before I went to work that I would write you a short letter although I have written one since I got any from you

I got a newark paper from you a few days since the first one that I have had for a long time. I was in hopes that I should get a letter by the same mail but did not yet I hope that the next one will bring me one from you

I have been sick for about a week with a billious difficulty. But I am better now I have doctored myself and think that I have been successful unless something else takes place. I shall be all right in right in a few days I think

There is no news down here now Everything is very dull. The weather is pleasant but pretty wet it rains every day and has for two or three weeks

Generally thunder showers and pretty heavy ones at that. I have not heard anything from the Regiment since they left here Jo Rush is here about once a week to see me I send you his photograph in this letter he says / his Mother lives in the house where Mills did when you write if you know how they are let me know Jo is anxious to hear from them it has been a long time since he has heard from them he is well and acting as nurse at the Barracks hospital

But I shall have to quit writing and go to work          Write as often as you can

From Yours as Ever
