George Y. Weimer was born around 1843 in Pennsylvania. He enlisted in the Union army on August 14, 1862, and he mustered in as a private in Company C of the 131st Pennsylvania Infantry. The regiment took part in the Battle of Antietam, the Battle of Fredericksburg, and the Battle of Chancellorsville. He mustered out on May 23, 1863.
He settled in Shamokin, Pennsylvania, after the war, and he earned a living as a potter. By 1870, he owned $300 of personal property. He supported the Democratic Party, and he attended local party meetings in the 1870s. He moved to Sunbury, Pennsylvania, in the 1870s, and he married Catherine Willet on May 5, 1878. They had three children: Margaret, born around 1878; Ella, born around 1881; and William, born around 1893. He applied for a federal pension in August 1892 and eventually received one. By 1900, he was working as a railroad engine inspector. He died sometime after 1900.
