Dear Sister
I received your kind favor of the 14th a few dayes ago & allso received one that was writen 30th of June at the same time there was so mutch stir and excitement abought Richmond at that time on the acount of the battle that was in progres at that time that they did not attend to the mail or any thing els it is all over now & our Capitol rests in peace & security once more & I hope it may rest so as long as god permits it to stand.
We moved up to this place yesterday from Atlees Station whare we was encamped when I wrote my last letter the whole Brigade is hear at this time we have come hear for the purpose of getting forage for our horses & to drill all the recruits need drilling none of them know any thing abought drilling it would / not do for them to go in to a fight with ought knowing any thing abought drilling I expect we will stay hear some time if the enemy does not run us ought.
I heard yesterday that Jackson was at Warington on the 21st I do not know whare he is by this time he is a very hard man to keep up with one day he is at Gordonsvill & the next day at Manassas and the next day you canot hear anything abought him I did not get to see Cousin Will Hogg but a very little while he was at Richmond I would of liked to have stayed with him some time but I could not get the chance I had to steal of from camp what little time I got to stay with him.
you wished to know if I received your letter that contained the one from cousin Lizie I received it it was a tremendous / union letter I do not know whether to answer it or not

We have to lament the los of one of our best friends Samuel Hulcher I supose you have / heard of his death he died of Typhoid Feaver at a private house in Richmond During the battle none of us had a chance to go to see him before he died Will Morell stayed with him all the time he was sick his father got to him before he was taken [paper hole] that will be a great satisfaction to them to know he was well cared for I cincerely sympathise with his familey in their berevement in him we lost a kind and obligeing companion & a good soldier every one in the companey thought a great deal of him I do not think he had an enemy in the whole companey it is verry distressing for one to part with their best friends but alas they must go when ever it is gods will to take them from us. I sent some yankey books home by David Sandoe when you get them you will see the names of the ones they are intended for I must close and give lewis a chance to wright some give my respects to Mr Stewarts familey & Mr / Brownings familey & Mr Cassell & James Loyd if he is at home & Sharlot Tel Mrs White that Will is well he is ought on a scout at this time I started ought with them & came back with a dispatch to Gen Stewart they will be in this evening they sent in 6 prisoners yesterday evening they are scouting in the neighborhood of Fredricksburg the enemy have a small force at that place yet Give my love to mother & laura & Sue & beleive me youre true brother T.W.Collay
