Thomas W. Colley to Sister, 25 March 1864
Gordonsville Va           
March 25th 1864
           
Dear Sister
              I wrote to you several dayes ago I have not received an answer to it so I come to the conclusion that you did not intend to wright to me any more I havent received but three letters in the last too months back I received a letter from Brother some (10) days ago he stated that the companey would leave home in a few days after the date of his letter whitch was the 13th of the present month by that I suppose they are on their way to the armey I shall look for lewis to come & see me as he goes on to the armey he stated to me in his letter that Capt Litchfield was down this way some where / I expect he would call to see me but I have not seen or heard any thing of him since I left home I dont suppose he cares any thing abought me any more I have wrote to Gen Jones for a transfer to the 8th Va Cav I expect the answer to my letter is at home by this time I expected to be at home by this time so I wrote to him to direct the answer to Emory if it has come to hand you will oblige me by encloseing it to me as soon as posible or any other letter that may be at home for me
                                   
I nead some boots & clothing very mutch but I am affraid to have them sent down here for it is uncertain how long I will stay here Tell Cousin Millias he ows me a letter & to send it on as soon as posible I have bein / kept in suspens so long that I do not know what to get at some times I have bein expecting to get away from here every day for too months & still on uncertainties yet I have not received a letter from any person for 3 months with the exception of four letters from home I have writen to cousin Kate some (3) or (4) times & have received no answer from her I suppose she has gotten entirely to good to corispond with a sinner like myself
                                   
I will close for the present hopeing those lines may find you all as well as this leaves me I am fleshier now than I have bein since I went in the armey I get plenty of corn bred & bacon to eat & do nothing but ride a little every day 
 
Give my love to Mrs Kidd Mrs Moore Mollie & Jonie & My respects to all my friends
