            Dear Sister
                                    I thought I would wright you a few lines to let you know how I am getting along lewis has written to you of my woond to the extent of it I will say it is a prety sever woon but not a dangerous one I was shot in the ankle joint I thought I would have it amputated before I would risk suffering what Sam B[?] has I am doing quite well My Phisician sayes he never saw a woond dooing better in all his experiance he says if I have good luck I will be able to go home in six weeks I hope I shall Lewis was to see me da before yesterday he is wateing for a hors detail he thinks he will get it by the time I am ready to go I am in hopes he will I will hardley be able to come by myself in less that 2 months I think with good luck and plenty of it / I will be able to be moved in a month I am very well atended to very seldom we get any wheat bread warm bread all togather it is very well baked I cant say that I want for any thing to eat or in any other way you must excuse bad wrighting I have to ly on my left side all togather consiquently I do not do mutch towards wrighting Tell mother to suffer no uneasiness on my acount I am in no great danger
