Dear Sister
                                    I take the present opportunity of wrighting to you there is a gentleman going to Lynchburg I will send this by him I wrote to you some dayes ago I do not know whether you will ever get it or not I will send you a letter every time I get a chance
                                   
I am doing quite well [paper hole] foot is healing as fast as it possibley can in 3 weeks I will be able to come home if I have good luck I received a letter from Lewis written the 22nd he was down below Richmond near Charles City C.H. he said he was well & Cousin Charles was well / he has sold my mare for 2700 twenty seven hundred dolars he stated in his first letter to me in the next letter he said he had sold her for $2650.00 She was very well sold I think I want you to send me something to eat some apple butter & a cheas if you can get one I can eat every thing I can get & more too rations comes quite thin here some times some times we get a plenty there is nothing that we can buy but what we have to pay [paper hole] prices for & not mutch at that [paper hole] that none of the boyes that are [paper hole] home have started back yet as the Railroad is toren up for some distance beyond lynchburg Hunter tore up things generaly whare ever he went he makes a great lost of the way he burnt / private property he said he would have turned the lunaticks ought of the asylum at Staunton if he had not bein over pursuaded Crook & Averil he said if he ever got the chance again he would [paper hole] burn them ought he is the grandest villian I ever have herd of since the war comenced I will close for the present hopeing this may find you all well I am in fine health myself [paper hole] enjoyed better health in my life [paper hole] ther is excedeingley hot here [paper hole] lay here and sweat all day I can sit up in the bed Give my love to Father Mother & Laura My respects to Mrs Kidd & Mollie & beleive me ever your
