Dear father
             I thought I would wright you a few lines to day I do not know whether it will ever reach you or not
                                   
I am doing quite well my woond is almost healed over I think in too more weeks it will be well enough for me to come home my helth has bein very good since you left me I never enjoyed better helth in my life than I have done since I have bein here I received a letter from Lewis yesterday he said he was well he has sold his hors for $800. he had give / ought he could not keep up with the command atall he met with a fellow that was going home & sold to him
                                   
the yankey have damaged the road so bad beyond Lynchburg that it will be a long time before it can be reparad it will be a month before it will be repared I feare that will be a great obstacle to my geting home I will get home some time be fore the war closes if I have good luck Lewis says that he would have a furlough by the 15th of this month I gues I will not be able to go with him I will try & come as far as lynchburg with him I have written to Jane several times since you left here I do not know that any of them ever went throug the road / being toren up beyond Lynchburg I do not know whether the mail passes over the road or not Lewis stated that none of the boys had returned yet so I came to the conclusion that the road was not in runing order yet the Doctor said he thought that I would be able to come home with lewis I am in hopes I will nothing more at present My love to mother & Sisters
