Lewis Love was born on November 22, 1833, in Ohio. He enlisted in the Union army on June 5, 1861, and he mustered in as a private in Company A of the 4th West Virginia Infantry. The regiment took part in the siege of Vicksburg and the Battle of Missionary Ridge. He mustered out on July 4, 1864.
He married Euretta Savage on October 4, 1864, and they had at least five children: Logan, born around 1866; Hattie, born around 1867; Oliver, born around 1869; Mollie, born around 1872; and Anna, born around 1874. They lived in West Columbia, West Virginia, and he earned a living as a blacksmith. They moved to Poca, West Virginia, in the 1870s and then to Cadmus, Kansas, in the 1880s. He applied for a federal pension in June 1891 and eventually received one. His wife died in 1900, and by 1910, he was living in Mazie, Oklahoma. He died on August 28, 1915.
