Mr Thomas P Fog
Dear Sir
I feel it my painful duty to write to you on this occasion with the sad inteligence of the death of one of our bravest boys your son. He was killed on the 19th while makeing one of the most galant charges of the war. in honor to him I must say that he died at his post many of our brave boys fell by his side our loss is very great upwards of 150 killed and wounded
our regiment is laying with in one hundred yards of the enemies works and while I write the balls are whistling over my head the enemy is surrounded they can not get out without breaking our lines which will / be hard to do Nothing more of importance to communicate
