Emily Thayer
Emily Thayer (maiden name: Wood) was born on April 6, 1823, in Mount Vernon, New Hampshire, to Artemas and Susan Wood. Her father was a railroad station agent who owned $2,000 of real estate by 1850. She married Nathan R. Thayer on June 23, 1846, and they had at least two children: Ida, born around 1855; and Jennie, born around 1857. They lived in Groton, Massachusetts, and her husband worked as a deputy custom house collector. By 1870, they owned $3,500 of real estate. Her husband died on June 26, 1874, and she died of cancer in Somerville, Massachusetts, on August 3, 1898.
